The Travel Router

The Travel Router

This document (see Attachments section below) provides step-by-step instructions for configuring a travel router to broadcast a localized Wi-Fi network from a hardwired, venue-provided Ethernet connection. It is designed to ensure event staff have a dedicated, reliable internet connection for check-in tablets without relying on shared, campus-wide Wi-Fi.

This guide covers:
  1. Physical Setup: Specific cabling instructions for WAN and power connections.
  2. Hardware Verification: Expected hardware switch positions and diagnostic light sequences.
  3. Network Access: SSID naming conventions, password details, and captive portal authentication steps.
  4. Best Practices: Operational advice to restrict network access strictly to registration devices, preventing bandwidth degradation from general attendee use.
This guide doesn't cover:
  1. How to setup the tablet and test badge label printing
  2. How to configure the rest of the badge printing kit
THE TRAVEL ROUTER isn't included in the standard printer kit and is purchased as an additional service.
